We've gotta start somewhere.

I'm doing this. I'm creating an archive of what I'm going through as a girl trying to become an actor in NYC. Sorry that I won't think much about what I say here, I'm just saying what needs to be said.

Reading Backstage today, I found a quote from Craig Wallace that I found intriguing. He was writing an article about how to be charistmatic. Hilarious, I know-and he said this:

When your focus is entirely on another person, you become your best self:

I really liked that. I know that I can be a better listener-both on stage and in life. And I know that listening is important.

I started working with an actor & writer who I cherish. I came to know her through the NY Neo Futurist company that I interned for in 2010. We have defined my goals as such:

The five companies I want to be involved with are as follows

1. The Tugboat Collective
2. Grace Exhibition Space
3. Moonshine Reading Series
4. Bushwick Starr Reading Series (I volunteer for them)
5. We Make Films

Daily Goals: Submit to actor's access and backstage (I can't stand playbill for some reason right now)

Weekly Goals: Make something with Lydia or someone that is filmed.

Monthly Goals: Training. Also one new audition piece for my porfolio (expanding material)

Yearly Goals: Get an agent. (I know this is vague, whatever.)

Other goals: Make flyers for my bands & set new One-On-One audition date for March 18th
What I have done today:
Is submit to actor's access notices, which feels like a shot in the dark every single time. And more agencies.

What I need to do today:
Is submit to every other acting website out there.

What my concerns are:
I've had to miss two auditions in the last week due to my temp job. What do I do about this? How do I prioritze? It's a new job for me, too.

How I am feeling:
On one hand, I'm feeling like I can do this. I have all the talent it takes. It's the resources and business knowledge that I don't. I'm trying to take care of that by reading more and more articles, becoming aquainted with more and more theater companies (which I hope to figure out how to extend past liking them on facebook). One the other, I'm feeling on the watery edge of hopeless. Common fears: I'm getting older. When will I be noticed? Am I putting my future in jepordy by choosing to persue this? Where do I even start in persuing it?? I feel like there is just too much. Information, Everything. And that it will never be enough.

What helps:
A bible study I got in my inbox saying that we are not here for our plan, but for God's. And my boyfriend, who tells me to keep a light mind, and not be hard on myself. And these truly help.

Lesson to be learned:
I put a model open call in my phone today. I did not, however-include any information past that...

The other day I was in The Drama Bookshop. There is a book I need to get there called Acting As A Business. I picked up "Marcus is Walking" which I need to read for my next session with Eevin.

It feels good to be talking about this sort of thing. I am staring my realities in the face.

I promised myself I would dedicate 10 years of my life to acting in this city, or at least trying. I can, with a clear conscious, take off 6 months. 9.5 to go.
